Workshops

Godalming Choral Society held their first “Come and Sing” workshop in November 2008.  The day was led by Philip Langridge, the distinguished tenor and the society’s President. In a packed day, Philip worked with 60 members of the choir on a selection of choruses from Mendelssohn’s Elijah.  Through vocal exercises and dramatic interaction, the choir gained entertaining and thought-provoking insights into the meaning of the words and music and as well as invaluable tips for production of a controlled, targetted sound in a day that all agreed was inspirational.

Planning for a future “Come and Sing” day open to the choir, as well as external singers, is under way.

L’Ensemble Choral de Joigny

Godalming  Choral  Society  has  established  a  twinning  arrangement  with L’Ensemble  Choral  de  Joigny,  from  Godalming’s  twin  town  in  Burgundy.  Members  of  the  Society  visited  Joigny in 2000 and 2004, performing joint concerts with L’Ensemble Choral.  In 2001 and 2007, the Society reciprocated by hosting the Joigny choir in Godalming.  Godalming Choral Society will be visiting Joigny in May 2010.

Scratch Concerts

Godalming Choral Society organises regular trips to participate in scratch concerts at the Albert Hall.  Recent events include the Rutter Requiem conducted by John Rutter on 12th July 2009, the Verdi Requiem conducted by Brian Kay on 9th May 2009 and the Armed Man conducted by Brian Kay in July 2008.

Social Events

The Choir holds social events through the year, including after concert parties, a Christmas party, annual quiz night and summer theatre outing.  There are usually also post-rehearsal trips to the pub.
